Original pre-World War II Washington promotional booklet featuring Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, maps, photography, travel, industry, and scenic attractions.
$44.00
Richly illustrated and beautifully designed, this original 1939 Washington State promotional booklet captures the Evergreen State at the dawn of modern American tourism. Published by the Washington State Progress Commission and copyrighted 1939, it showcases the state's spectacular landscapes, growing industries, transportation networks, recreational opportunities, and civic pride through an engaging combination of black-and-white photography, striking color printing, maps, and streamlined graphic design characteristic of the late WPA and Streamline Moderne era.
The booklet contains 46 pages and measures approximately 10 inches by 7.75 inches. Inside are numerous photographs of Mount Rainier National Park, Mount St. Helens from Spirit Lake before the 1980 eruption, Long Beach, the Columbia River, forests, lakes, agriculture, fishing, transportation, modern cities, and regional attractions, along with illustrated maps and travel information that provide a fascinating snapshot of Washington State immediately before World War II. The vivid green design elements and period typography give the publication exceptional visual appeal while documenting an important period in the state's history and tourism development.
Condition is very good vintage overall. The pages remain clean, crisp, and firmly bound with secure original staples. Printing remains bright with excellent image clarity throughout. The back cover has a small folded lower corner with a light crease, along with only minor handling wear consistent with age. It remains complete with no missing pages or structural issues.
This booklet comes from my family's long-preserved collection and has remained carefully preserved for decades. It is an outstanding collectible for enthusiasts of Washington history, Mount Rainier National Park, Mount St. Helens before the eruption, WPA-era graphic design, vintage travel guides, Americana, Pacific Northwest ephemera, state promotional publications, historical tourism, and prewar American photography.
