$184.00

At first glance this unusual vintage Bakelite bangle could easily be mistaken for richly polished carved hardwood. Its warm mahogany red coloration, visible grain-like striations and darker recessed carving create a convincing faux wood appearance, while light passing across the surface reveals the depth and character of vintage phenolic resin. The Bakelite has been Simichrome tested for authenticity. Deep diagonal grooves travel continuously around the bangle, dividing the rounded exterior into broad sculptural sections and creating the twisted rope or spiral effect that gives the bracelet its distinctive profile. The darker color concentrated within the carving dramatically emphasizes the pattern against the glowing reddish surface.

Dating to the Bakelite jewelry era of the 1930s–1940s, this substantial bangle represents a particularly decorative alternative to familiar solid-color vintage Bakelite bracelets. Its combination of carved woodgrain appearance, mahogany red overdyed coloration and continuous geometric spiral carving gives it strong appeal for serious Bakelite collectors as well as buyers searching for Art Deco jewelry, carved phenolic resin bracelets, vintage red Bakelite, wood-look Bakelite, chunky statement bangles and collectible early plastic jewelry. It measures approximately 3¼ inches in outside diameter with a 2 9/16-inch inside diameter, approximately 9/16 inch wide and about 3/8 inch through the side wall.

Condition is very good vintage with light surface wear and minor marks consistent with age and use. The carved grooves remain strong and well defined, the distinctive grain-like surface remains readily visible, and the bracelet retains its rich reddish mahogany coloration and attractive luster. Its generous interior diameter also makes it particularly useful for collectors seeking a larger vintage Bakelite bangle, whether worn individually as a statement bracelet or combined with other carved, red, butterscotch, apple juice or marbled Bakelite pieces.
