Graceful sculptural movement defines this authentic mid-20th-century Van Briggle Bird of Paradise vase, a distinctive botanical form from one of America's most celebrated art potteries. The Bird of Paradise design is documented in Van Briggle production by circa 1950, although the precise production year of this individual example has not been established. Rising approximately 8 7/8 inches from a rounded base, the vessel sweeps upward into an elongated flower-inspired opening with a dramatically pointed tip. Its fluid organic silhouette carries forward the Art Nouveau design language fundamental to Van Briggle while giving the vase a remarkably modern presence suited equally well to Mid Century Modern, Arts & Crafts and minimalist interiors.

A soft matte white to warm ivory glaze beautifully emphasizes the architecture of the form, allowing light and shadow to reveal the long curves, raised botanical elements and sculptural transitions without distracting surface decoration. The underside bears the hand-incised Van Briggle double-A cipher together with “Van Briggle,” “Colo Spgs” and “Colo.” A separate incised “V” production or worker mark appears beside the double-A cipher. Because that mark has not been conclusively tied to a particular Van Briggle employee or production period, no unsupported worker attribution is made.

The vase remains in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs found. A few extremely light surface scuffs and small marks are visible only upon close inspection, consistent with age and normal handling of matte-glazed pottery. Measuring approximately 8 7/8 inches tall, this elegant sculptural vase offers strong collector appeal for Van Briggle pottery, Colorado Springs ceramics, American art pottery, Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts design, Mid Century Modern pottery, botanical ceramics and sophisticated vintage decor.
