Vintage Anna Van Briggle Honey Gold Drip Glaze Vase Mid Century Modern Eames Era Architectural Pottery

Dramatic architectural geometry makes this vintage Anna Van Briggle vase an exceptional example of Van Briggle's Mid Century Modern high-gloss pottery. Produced during the 1954–1968 Anna Van period, the design moves decisively away from the flowing Art Nouveau forms associated with early Van Briggle and into the angular, sculptural vocabulary of postwar American design. Its sharply faceted body, asymmetrical planes, dramatically flared triangular opening and large geometric open handle give the vase a striking Eames Era and Atomic Modern presence from every viewing angle.

The high-gloss glaze is equally distinctive, combining a rich Honey Gold amber-brown ground with darker fired variations and a heavily textured cream volcanic drip glaze cascading irregularly from the rim. Van Briggle's Anna line grew from the company's acquisition of Dryden Pottery in 1954 and utilized the Dryden clay and compatible high-gloss glaze formulas, creating a distinctly different group of wares from traditional matte Van Briggle pottery. The strong geometry and contrasting volcanic glaze treatment seen here beautifully capture that experimental Mid Century period.

The unglazed base is hand-incised “Anna Van Briggle / Colo Spgs,” identifying it with this collectible high-gloss production line. The vase measures approximately 9¼ inches tall and 3½ inches wide including the handle. It remains in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, or repairs observed. Natural tonal and textural variations within the glaze are products of the original firing and contribute considerably to the character of the piece.
