Vintage Renoir Copper Repoussé Floral Brooch Pendant Art Nouveau Scrollwork Mid Century
Signed Renoir convertible brooch and pendant featuring richly sculpted repoussé copper with flowing floral and scroll motifs in a dramatic Art Nouveau Revival design.
$79.00
Richly sculpted and wonderfully dimensional, this vintage Renoir copper brooch showcases the romantic side of Mid-Century American jewelry design. Ornate scrolling foliage, blooming flowers, and flowing botanical forms rise dramatically above a dark oxidized background, creating exceptional depth and contrast that beautifully highlights the handcrafted repoussé relief. The result is an eye-catching composition that blends Art Nouveau elegance with the warm organic character that made Renoir copper jewelry so popular during the 1950s and 1960s.
Founded in California in the late 1940s, Renoir became one of America's premier producers of handcrafted copper jewelry, celebrated for combining artistic design with quality workmanship. While many Renoir creations embraced sleek modern styling, this signed example reflects the company's more elaborate Art Nouveau Revival aesthetic, with graceful floral ornamentation, sweeping scrollwork, and richly modeled surfaces. An integrated hidden pendant bail allows the piece to be worn either as a dramatic brooch or suspended from a favorite chain as a statement pendant without interrupting the design.
The brooch measures approximately 2¼ inches high by 2¾ inches wide. Like many authentic Renoir repoussé pieces, the reverse is hollow to reduce weight while preserving the impressive sculptural depth of the front. The copper has developed a beautiful warm burnished patina, while the recessed oxidized background continues to provide excellent visual contrast. The front presents beautifully with light vintage wear, while the reverse shows expected finish wear consistent with decades of careful use. The clasp functions properly, and the original finish has been intentionally left unpolished. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description and accurately represent the current condition.
Equally appealing to collectors of Renoir and Matisse copper jewelry, Art Nouveau Revival design, Mid-Century Modern metalwork, floral jewelry, botanical brooches, and handcrafted American studio jewelry, this impressive convertible brooch and pendant is a beautifully executed example of the sculptural copper artistry that established Renoir as one of the most respected names in twentieth-century American costume jewelry.
