Vintage Paden City Pottery Shenandoah Pastels Yellow 12 3/4 Inch Chop Plate Round Platter 1950
Large Mid Century Modern American serving platter in bright solid yellow coupe shape, dated January 1950, collectible West Virginia pottery, retro MCM dinnerware and vintage kitchen tableware
$44.95
Bright solid yellow glaze and a clean coupe form give this vintage Shenandoah Pastels platter the streamlined character of early Mid Century Modern American dinnerware. Made by Paden City Pottery in Paden City, West Virginia, the Shenandoah Pastels line was produced in a range of solid colors, with the yellow version documented as a bright yellow coupe-shape dinnerware pattern.
Measuring approximately 12¾ inches in diameter, this is the large 12-inch chop plate or round serving platter documented for Shenandoah Pastels Yellow. Replacements lists this exact form at 12¾ inches wide. The underside is marked “Shenandoah Pastels Made in U.S.A. A • 50.” Paden City Pottery used letter-and-number production codes in which the letter indicated the month and the final two digits the year; A • 50 therefore dates this platter to January 1950.
The platter remains in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks found. Very light crazing is visible only upon close inspection. A few small dark glaze spots and one tiny localized surface irregularity are also present and shown in the close-up photographs. The broad glossy yellow face retains strong color and presents beautifully overall.
An excellent piece for collectors of Paden City Pottery, Shenandoah Pastels, 1950s American dinnerware, Mid Century Modern ceramics, vintage West Virginia pottery, solid-color tableware, retro kitchen decor and large vintage serving platters.
