Vintage 1950s 1960s Atomic Boomerang Ceramic Ashtray Large Triangular Mid Century Modern USA Pottery Space Age Sculptural Design

11 inch speckled art pottery smoking accessory with dramatic three-point form, raised geometric center and integrated cigarette rests; retro MCM tobacciana, barware, catchall and sculptural home decor

$79.00

Dramatic Atomic Age geometry gives this large vintage American ceramic ashtray exceptional mid-century presence. Dating approximately to the 1950s–1960s, the substantial three-point form combines a sharply triangular silhouette with sweeping recessed areas, a raised sculptural center and stepped integrated cigarette rests. Viewed from the side, its low aerodynamic profile and dramatically projecting points capture the futuristic, Space Age design vocabulary associated with postwar American Modernism.

The glossy glaze combines warm peach, apricot, tan and cream tones with fine reddish-brown speckling throughout. Lighter cream-gray and subtle lavender-toned glaze collects along the raised and recessed sculptural details, emphasizing the molded contours and giving the surface considerably more depth than a single-color pottery glaze. The underside is impressed MADE IN U.S.A. and carries an additional faint factory or mold designation that appears to include “210 C,” although the maker has not been identified.

This substantial ashtray measures approximately 11 inches along each of the two longer sides, approximately 10 1/2 inches across the remaining side, and stands about 1 1/2 inches high. No chips, cracks, crazing or repairs were found. The glazed surfaces remain remarkably well preserved, while the unglazed underside shows expected surface rubbing and marks from previous display and use.

Originally designed as a large tabletop cigarette ashtray, its sculptural form also works beautifully today as a retro catchall, console dish or standalone decorative object. An excellent piece for collectors of Atomic Age décor, vintage tobacciana, American art pottery, 1950s and 1960s ceramics, Space Age design, boomerang forms, mid-century barware and sculptural Mid-Century Modern home décor.
