Vintage Franciscan Oasis Dinner Plate 1950s Atomic Starburst Gladding McBean California Mid Century Modern

Atomic Age geometry gives this vintage Franciscan Oasis dinner plate its unmistakable 1950s character. Produced in California by Gladding, McBean & Co., Oasis combines intersecting linear grids, turquoise blue and gray geometric blocks, and stylized starburst motifs against a softly speckled ivory ground. Introduced in 1954 and produced through 1962, the pattern captures the optimism and futuristic visual language that made postwar California dinnerware such an important part of Mid Century Modern design. Oasis is documented as a Franciscan pattern featuring blue and gray shaded line and star decoration.

Measuring approximately 10⅞ inches in diameter, this is the full-size Oasis dinner plate, a size confirmed in the documented pattern inventory. The reverse bears the period Franciscan Ware Color-Seal Gladding, McBean & Co. Oven-Safe Made in California U.S.A. backstamp. Its combination of abstract geometric lines, starbursts and aqua-turquoise accents gives Oasis strong appeal not only to Franciscan collectors but also to buyers seeking authentic 1950s Atomic Modern dinnerware, retro kitchenware and California pottery.

The decorated face remains in excellent vintage condition, with the Atomic starburst and geometric design presenting beautifully. On the underside only, a small localized surface irregularity is present and shown closely in the photographs; it could not be determined whether this occurred during manufacture or later use. Some faint yellowish lines are also visible on the reverse. No other condition issues were observed.
