Rich color, exceptional craftsmanship, and distinctive pre-war Czech design come together in this authentic vintage Czechoslovakian ribbon slide, a beautifully preserved decorative dress ornament dating to the Art Deco era. Unlike a traditional brooch, this elongated oval ornament was designed with two original attachment loops on the reverse, allowing it to be threaded onto ribbon or incorporated into clothing, millinery, or period fashion accessories as originally intended. Today it also displays beautifully as part of a collection of fine Czech costume jewelry.

The front is finished with a softly hammered gilt surface decorated with flowing hand-applied green enamel vines surrounding a striking purple bellflower, all framed by a continuous border of individually set marcasites. Additional marcasites are incorporated throughout the floral design, creating subtle sparkle that contrasts beautifully against the warm gold finish and vibrant enamel colors. The combination of textured metalwork, colorful enameling, and marcasite decoration is characteristic of the exceptional decorative jewelry produced in Czechoslovakia during the 1920s and 1930s.

The reverse retains its original Czechoslovakia mark along with the original dual ribbon attachment loops, confirming its intended function as a ribbon slide or dress ornament rather than a conventional brooch. Pieces in this form are encountered far less frequently than Czech brooches, making them especially desirable to collectors of Art Deco fashion accessories and vintage Czech jewelry.

This ribbon slide measures approximately 2 3/16 inches by 1 3/16 inches. All original marcasites remain present, although several have naturally mellowed with age and display less brilliance than the others. The enamel remains vibrant with only light vintage wear consistent with careful age, preserving the exceptional decorative quality of the piece.

This ornament comes from my late uncle's jewelry collection, assembled over more than fifty years and carefully preserved within the family. I do not source inventory, making every piece I offer part of a long-held family collection.

Collectors of Czech jewelry, Czechoslovakia costume jewelry, Art Deco accessories, ribbon slides, dress ornaments, marcasite jewelry, enamel jewelry, antique fashion accessories, and pre-war European decorative arts will appreciate the uncommon form, outstanding craftsmanship, and authentic period character of this exceptional example.
