Dragons have symbolized strength, protection, and heritage for centuries, and this impressive vintage brass heraldic dragon brooch has the bold sculptural presence to match. Weighing a substantial 38 grams, it is cast in exceptionally high relief with deeply modeled overlapping scales, a curling serpent-like tail, pronounced dorsal spines, clawed feet, and expressive openwork eyes. The sculptor paid remarkable attention to texture, allowing the scales to catch the light individually while the recessed details develop natural shadow and depth. The result is a brooch with genuine dimensionality that feels almost sculptural rather than simply decorative. Its overall form is much more reminiscent of a traditional Celtic or Welsh heraldic dragon than a natural reptile.

This brooch comes from my own family's collection and belonged to my mother. My maternal family traces its roots to Wales, and after my grandfather passed away, my grandmother returned there during the 1970s. Like most children, I paid much more attention to my own souvenirs than to the gifts exchanged by the adults, so I cannot honestly say whether this brooch was brought back from that trip. Measuring an impressive 3 5/8 inches long by 2 3/8 inches tall and weighing a substantial 38 grams, this is a genuinely oversized statement brooch with exceptional presence. The reverse retains its original vintage pin assembly with visible hand-finished solder work at the hinge, a construction detail commonly found on older cast brooches. The warm aged brass finish has developed a beautiful natural patina with darker accents settling into the recessed areas, enhancing every scale and contour. I have intentionally left this untouched to preserve its authentic vintage character. Light age-related wear is present and consistent with decades of careful ownership.
