Authentic Bakelite Squirrel Brooch Carved Oxblood & Cherry Red Figural Glass Eye Woodland Pin

Large Simichrome-Tested Carved Bakelite Squirrel on Faux Wood Tree Branch with Original Mechanical Construction

$395.00

Exceptional vintage figural Bakelite squirrel brooch featuring a beautifully carved deep oxblood red squirrel mounted within a richly carved faux wood tree branch. Both the squirrel and tree have been Simichrome tested and confirmed as genuine Bakelite. The squirrel displays a striking color shift that ranges from rich oxblood to brighter cherry red depending on the lighting, enhanced by dramatic natural amber and orange marbling that is inherent to the Bakelite rather than damage. A bright inset glass eye adds lifelike expression and exceptional collector appeal.

The stylized tree branch is deeply carved with flowing bark grain, naturalistic texturing, and small carved pits that convincingly recreate the appearance of aged wood. Unlike many one-piece figural brooches, the squirrel is a separately carved element mechanically mounted to the branch using an original concealed attachment secured by a slotted screw, creating a highly dimensional construction rarely encountered on vintage Bakelite animal brooches. The carving throughout is crisp, with beautifully modeled facial features, sweeping tail, rounded body, and sculptural depth from every angle.

This impressive brooch measures approximately 2½ inches tall by 2¼ inches wide. The original rollover clasp functions properly. Light age-appropriate wear is present consistent with careful vintage use. The natural patina and surface character have been left intact, and the striking marbled coloration should not be mistaken for damage.

Highly desirable for collectors of vintage Bakelite jewelry, figural animal brooches, carved Bakelite, squirrel jewelry, woodland motifs, Art Deco accessories, and early plastic collectibles. Its substantial size, exceptional carving, genuine glass eye, mechanically mounted construction, and confirmed Bakelite composition make it a standout collector piece seldom encountered in today's market. This was one of my late uncle's absolute favorite pins, saying "people go nuts for it." Hopefully you will, too.
