This tiny original Burgess Battery Company advertising tag packs a remarkable amount of period graphic design into just 1 3/8 inches. Made to resemble a cylindrical Burgess No. 2 Unit Cell Flashlight Battery, the die-cut paperboard tag features the company's distinctive black-and-white striped battery graphics with a vivid red center label reading “Burgess Unit Cell Flashlight Battery.” The striped Burgess battery identity was already documented in company advertising by the mid-1930s, supporting a circa 1930s date for this piece.

Measuring approximately 1 3/8 inches long by 7/8 inch wide, the tag retains its old string and has a generic merchandise-style price form printed on the reverse. A previous owner or dealer wrote “3.00” in the price area; this is not believed to represent the original retail price of the battery. The wonderfully small format gives it appeal well beyond battery collectors, particularly for collectors of vintage advertising, advertising ephemera, general store advertising, old hardware store memorabilia and miniature advertising pieces. Period general-store advertising and ephemera remain established collecting categories today.

The tag shows age-related surface and edge wear consistent with an original paper advertising piece of this size and era. The handwritten price remains on the reverse and has been left exactly as found. Please review the photographs closely as condition is subjective and the photos form part of the description.
