Rare Sterling Button Co NY Vintage 3D Floral Statement Necklace Articulated Pendant
Scarce signed American costume jewelry with oversized sculptural botanical centerpiece, dimensional layered flowers, leaves and kinetic dangles, double-link chain, collectible mid-century design
$385.00
Striking dimensional construction and an unusually large sculptural centerpiece distinguish this rare vintage necklace by Sterling Button Co. NY, a lesser-documented American costume jewelry maker whose signed jewelry is infrequently encountered. Measuring approximately 3 1/2 inches wide by 3 inches high, the dramatic floral pendant is built as a true three-dimensional composition rather than a conventional flat stamped ornament, giving the necklace exceptional depth, movement, and display presence.
The oversized botanical centerpiece is assembled from individually formed and layered metal components, with overlapping leaves and six dimensional blossoms arranged into a broad pyramidal composition. Rounded berry-like elements project outward from the flowers, while additional suspended elements create articulated movement beneath several of the blossoms. The numerous separately formed components, raised construction, open areas between the foliage, and articulated details produce changing shadows and dimension as the necklace moves. The pendant is suspended from a substantial approximately 21 1/2-inch double-link chain and closes with a spring-ring clasp.
The reverse is clearly signed “STERLING BUTTON CO. NY,” identifying the maker; Sterling Button Co. is the company name and the necklace itself is not represented as sterling silver. The metal retains its naturally aged surface, with deep bronze and antiqued gold tones contributing considerable character and emphasizing the layered construction. It has been left unpolished to preserve the existing patina and original aged appearance.
With its scarce maker attribution, unusually large 3D floral centerpiece, articulated construction, and highly sculptural presence, this is an especially compelling example for collectors of signed vintage costume jewelry, dimensional botanical jewelry, mid-century statement necklaces, unusual American costume jewelry, and rare maker pieces.
