Vintage Russel Wright Iroquois Casual China Casual Gray 12.5 Inch Oval Serving Platter Mid Century Modern MCM Dinnerware

Classic 1950s American modernist tableware designed by Russel Wright for Iroquois China Syracuse NY; collectible gray ceramic serving tray, replacement dinnerware and iconic postwar industrial design

$22.00

A classic piece of American Mid Century Modern design, this vintage oval serving platter was designed by Russel Wright for the Iroquois China Company as part of his influential Casual China dinnerware line. Wright's restrained organic forms helped transform the American table after World War II, replacing traditional formal dinnerware with pieces designed for relaxed modern living. Finished in the sophisticated neutral Casual Gray glaze, the platter's broad oval form and gently modeled rim make it as appealing for contemporary serving as it is for a collection of important postwar American design.

Measuring approximately 12 1/2 inches long, this substantial serving platter coordinates with other Russel Wright Iroquois Casual China pieces, including the covered divided vegetable dish from the same line. Its understated gray glaze and sculptural simplicity make it particularly appealing to collectors of Russel Wright, Iroquois China, Mid Century Modern dinnerware, vintage American modernist ceramics and 1950s tableware. Russel Wright's Casual China is represented in major museum design collections, including the Museum of Modern Art.

The platter remains very presentable but does show age and use. Two small adjacent chips are present along the outer rim, and three light scratches can be seen on the face upon close inspection. Manufacturing spur marks and minor factory characteristics are also present. No cracks or other damage were found. The chips and surface wear are shown in the photographs for an accurate assessment of condition.
