Vintage Ben Seibel Raymor Contempora Fawn Brown Gravy Boat Steubenville Pottery 1950s Mid Century Modern
Sculptural American modernist ceramic creamer and sauce server with distinctive linear textured decoration, marked Raymor Contempora by Steubenville, collectible MCM designer dinnerware and tableware
$68.00
Sculptural form and distinctive linear decoration make this 1950s Raymor Contempora gravy boat a particularly handsome example of Ben Seibel's influential Mid Century Modern dinnerware design. Created by acclaimed American industrial designer Ben Seibel and produced by Steubenville Pottery for the Raymor line, Contempora combines organic curves, practical function, and understated modernist styling characteristic of postwar American design. The underside retains the desirable original “raymor contempora by STEUBENVILLE” maker's mark.
This example is the documented Fawn Brown colorway, with warm sand, taupe, and brown tones crossed by the fine irregular horizontal lines that give Contempora its unmistakable textured appearance. The rounded body rises into a dramatically swept upper rim and tapered pouring spout, while the circular handle provides another strong sculptural element. Although generally identified as a gravy boat, this smaller form is also described in the market as a creamer/gravy boat, making both terms worthwhile for collectors searching for the form.
Measuring approximately 5¾ inches wide, 3¾ inches deep, and 3¾ inches tall, it remains in excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks, crazing, or repairs were found. An excellent addition for collectors of Ben Seibel design, Raymor Contempora dinnerware, Steubenville Pottery, 1950s American ceramics, Mid Century Modern tableware, or vintage modernist home décor.
