Vintage Frankoma Plainsman #838 Woodland Moss Pitcher 1965–1974 Sapulpa Red Clay Mid Century Modern Oklahoma Art Pottery

Rich blue-green Woodland Moss glaze and warm Sapulpa red clay distinguish this vintage Frankoma Pottery Plainsman #838 pitcher, a wonderful example of mid-century Oklahoma ceramics. Frankoma introduced the #838 10-ounce pitcher in 1965, while the distinctive Woodland Moss glaze was produced during the 1960s into the early 1970s, dating this example to approximately 1965–1974. Its creamy blue-green rutile glaze develops beautiful olive, golden brown and deep chocolate variation along the shoulder, pouring rim and angular handle, dramatically revealing the warm red-orange Sapulpa clay beneath.

Measuring approximately 5 inches tall, the #838 belongs to Frankoma's popular Plainsman dinnerware line and combines a rounded body and broad shoulder with a narrow neck, pronounced pouring lip and squared geometric handle. The combination gives this functional serving piece considerable sculptural presence and makes it especially appealing to collectors of Frankoma Plainsman, Woodland Moss pottery, Oklahoma ceramics, Mid Century Modern dinnerware, Southwestern pottery and vintage American art pottery.

This example is in excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks noted. The underside retains the impressed Frankoma identification and clearly exposes the characteristic Sapulpa red clay body. The original cork stopper is no longer present. Particularly attractive glaze variation across the body, rim and handle gives this small Plainsman pitcher an unusually strong decorative presence while preserving its original function as a 10-ounce serving pitcher.
