Vintage Sterling Silver Martin Modernist Mosaic Inlay Pendant Necklace Studio Artisan Brutalist Jewelry
Sculptural signed sterling pendant with vivid blue purple pink and cream geometric inlay, textured silver relief, shield form and dimensional architectural construction on 24 inch Italian 925 chain
$225.00
Striking color, sculptural sterling silver and dramatic geometric construction define this signed vintage studio jewelry pendant necklace. The large shield-shaped pendant combines richly textured silver surfaces with raised architectural elements and a vivid mosaic-style inlay arranged in cobalt and royal blue, turquoise blue, purple-red, salmon pink and creamy iridescent sections. Rather than lying completely flat, the design is built in multiple levels, including a raised semicircular upper section and projecting central inlaid panel that give the pendant exceptional depth and a distinctly Modernist, Brutalist-inspired presence.
The reverse is hand-marked “STERLING,” accompanied by a small pictorial maker’s device and the name “MARTIN.” I have not identified the specific artist or workshop behind this mark, so the piece is offered as signed Martin studio jewelry without further attribution. The fine box-style chain is separately marked “925 ITALY” and “G.W.” and attaches directly to rings at the upper corners of the pendant, creating an integrated presentation that emphasizes its broad geometric form.
The chain measures approximately 24 inches long. The pendant measures approximately 1 1/2 inches tall by 1 5/16 inches wide and shows considerable dimensional relief when viewed from the side. The silver retains surface scratches, patina and other evidence of previous wear appropriate to a vintage handmade piece. The colorful inlay remains visually strong; small natural variations and surface irregularities are visible within the individual materials, so please review the detailed photographs closely for current condition.
A distinctive piece for collectors of vintage sterling silver jewelry, American studio jewelry, Modernist jewelry, Brutalist design, artisan silverwork, geometric jewelry and one-of-a-kind wearable art.
