Vintage Gonder Pottery Vase E-4 Mid Century Modern Pottery Sculptural Chartreuse Ceramic Scroll Vase

Sweeping curves, dimensional scrollwork and a striking chartreuse glaze give this vintage Gonder Pottery vase the presence of ceramic sculpture. The unusual asymmetrical form rises from a four-footed base into a dramatically flared opening, with a cascade of molded scrolls balancing the long upward sweep of the opposite side. Known in the Gonder collecting market as a Scroll Flat or Scroll Flat Wave form, the E-4 design exemplifies the imaginative sculptural pottery produced by Gonder Ceramic Arts in Zanesville, Ohio during its 1941–1957 production period.

The glossy glaze shifts through chartreuse green, olive, golden yellow and warm brown as it follows the deeply molded contours, creating pronounced highlights and shadows across the scrolls and broad curving surfaces. Its exaggerated organic silhouette gives the vase strong Mid Century Modern appeal while the scrolling ornament also reflects the transitional design vocabulary found on other Gonder examples. Measuring approximately 7 inches tall, 7 inches across at its widest point and 4 inches deep, the vase bears its original Gonder mark on the underside. Careful inspection found no chips, cracks, repairs or crazing. The unglazed foot rims show light age-appropriate shelf wear, while a subtle glaze variation near the rim appears consistent with manufacture rather than subsequent damage.
