Vintage Franciscan Duet Rose Coffee Cup Gladding McBean California Pottery 1950s Mid Century Modern
Eclipse shape speckled ivory ceramic teacup with pink mauve rosebuds and gray botanical design, collectible 1956–1961 American MCM dinnerware, retro California tableware
$9.95
Graceful pink rosebuds and delicate linear foliage give this vintage Franciscan Duet Rose coffee cup the understated modern character of 1950s California dinnerware. Produced by Gladding, McBean & Co., Duet Rose was made from 1956 to 1961 and features two pink flowers with gray stems on Franciscan's sculptural Eclipse shape. The underside retains its period Franciscan Ware Gladding, McBean & Co. Made in U.S.A. backstamp.
The low, generously rounded cup has a softly speckled ivory ground accented by an asymmetrical botanical design of pink and mauve rosebuds, slender gray-brown stems and leaves. Its curved body and large loop handle give the cup a distinctly Mid Century Modern silhouette while the restrained floral decoration provides a softer alternative to the more overtly Atomic patterns of the period. This is the cup only; no saucer is included.
The cup presents very well overall. A small area of light utensil/use marks is visible inside near the base and on the back of the cup, these are shown closely in the photographs for your evaluation. No chips or cracks were found. The exterior floral decoration remains attractive and well defined, with the speckled glaze and classic Eclipse form displaying beautifully.
A lovely replacement or display piece for collectors of Franciscan Duet Rose, Franciscan Ware, Gladding McBean, Eclipse dinnerware, 1950s California pottery, vintage floral china and Mid Century Modern tableware.
