$219.00
Elegant Edwardian design and exceptional American silversmithing come together in this antique Paye & Baker sterling silver buckle brooch, a beautifully preserved example dating to approximately 1905-1915. Crafted by the renowned Paye & Baker Company of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, the brooch reflects the graceful transition from the elaborate ornamentation of the late Victorian era to the refined, symmetrical aesthetics of the Edwardian period. Buckle brooches have long symbolized loyalty, strength, and enduring affection, making them timeless favorites among collectors of antique jewelry.
The elongated open oval form is richly decorated with finely engraved oval medallions alternating with delicate stylized floral and foliate motifs. Crisp engine-turned border engraving frames each panel, giving the brooch an architectural elegance while allowing the hand-cut details to catch the light beautifully. The elongated buckle tongue creates a balanced focal point within the open center, resulting in a design that feels both sophisticated and remarkably modern for its era.
The reverse bears the desirable Paye & Baker hallmark of three hearts enclosing the letters "P," "&," and "B," along with the STERLING mark. It retains its original long pin stem and early C-clasp, both strong indicators of early twentieth-century manufacture. The brooch measures approximately 2 11/16 inches wide by 1½ inches tall and remains in excellent antique condition with an attractive naturally aged sterling patina that has been intentionally left unpolished. Light surface wear and a few fine scratches are consistent with more than a century of careful preservation. Please review all photographs, as they form part of the description and accurately represent the current condition.
Whether worn on a jacket, scarf, lapel, or dress, or displayed within a collection of antique American sterling jewelry, this beautifully preserved Paye & Baker buckle brooch represents the quality craftsmanship, elegant design, and enduring appeal that have made the firm's work highly sought after by collectors for generations.
