Combining crisp pressed geometry with delicate acid-etched decoration, this antique Mascotte compote showcases the refined craftsmanship that made Ripley & Company one of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's respected nineteenth-century glass manufacturers. Introduced in 1889, the pattern pairs sparkling diamond-point panels with an elegant border of etched fern leaves around the flared rim, creating a sophisticated contrast between brilliant pressed glass and softly frosted decoration. The low pedestal gives the piece graceful proportions while allowing the intricate pattern to catch and reflect light from every angle.

Measuring approximately 7 inches in diameter and standing about 4¾ inches tall, this versatile pedestal bowl is equally at home displaying fruit, berries, candies, nuts, pastries, or serving as an elegant centerpiece. No chips, cracks, or flea bites were found. A few light surface scratches consistent with careful antique use are present, as shown in the photographs, but the glass remains bright and clear with crisp molding and beautifully preserved etched decoration.
