Exceptional original Art Deco birthday greeting card for Mother dating to approximately the late 1920s to early 1930s, showcasing the graceful colors, elegant typography, and sophisticated graphic design that made greeting cards of this period so distinctive. The cover features a charming pastoral landscape with cottages, flowering gardens, and sweeping bands of color across the sky, beautifully complemented by an applied pale aqua silk ribbon and richly textured linen-finish cardstock that gives the piece wonderful depth and tactile appeal. The combination of the textured stock, ribbon embellishment, and vibrant Art Deco artwork creates a presentation far more refined than typical greeting cards of the era.
This card comes from my paternal grandfather's long-preserved collection and has remained together as originally acquired, preserving its integrity as a complete salesman sample group. It remains unused and retains its original matching envelope with decorative printed liner along with its original glassine retail sleeve, features that collectors appreciate because they are so often lost over time.
The card measures approximately 5¾ inches by just over 4¾ inches. Inside is a printed birthday verse for Mother, while the opposite panel remains blank. The card has never been signed or used. The matching envelope is marked "25A387 Made in USA." The card, envelope, and original glassine sleeve display only light age-related storage wear consistent with careful preservation over many decades.
An outstanding addition for collectors of Art Deco greeting cards, antique paper ephemera, vintage stationery, Mother's birthday memorabilia, early American graphic design, and salesman's sample collections. Complete unused examples with their original envelope, glassine sleeve, and documented family provenance are becoming increasingly difficult to find, making this a particularly desirable survivor.
