Charming original Art Deco humorous birthday greeting card dating to approximately the late 1920s or early 1930s, featuring a delightful cartoon illustration of two children energetically sweeping up a cloud of dust while racing to be the first to deliver birthday wishes. The playful caption, "Excuse my dust, but I really Must Be the first to say 'HAVE A HAPPY DAY!' Birthday Greetings!" captures the lighthearted humor that made early twentieth-century greeting cards so memorable. Printed on heavy cardstock with what appears to be a subtle linen-textured finish, the artwork combines expressive linework with soft pastel colors and classic Art Deco typography.

This card comes from my paternal grandfather's long-preserved collection and has remained together as originally acquired, preserving its integrity as a complete salesman sample group. It remains unused and retains its original matching envelope and original glassine retail sleeve, components that are frequently missing after decades of storage and use.

Unlike a traditional folding greeting card, this example is a single heavy cardstock panel intended to be presented with its envelope. The panel measures approximately 5.25 inches by just over 4.25 inches and remains blank on the reverse. The card, envelope, and glassine sleeve show only light age-related storage wear consistent with careful preservation.

A wonderful addition for collectors of Art Deco greeting cards, antique paper ephemera, vintage birthday memorabilia, humorous illustrated postcards and cards, early American graphic design, and salesman's sample collections. Complete unused examples with documented family provenance are increasingly difficult to locate and make especially appealing display pieces.
