$34.00

This charming vintage Gladys Wax Pottery miniature vase is a distinctive example of mid-century American tourist pottery associated with Keystone, South Dakota and the Black Hills pottery tradition. Dating approximately to the 1960s, the petite ceramic vase combines regional souvenir history with the woodland imagery closely associated with Gladys Wax pottery, making it an appealing collectible for enthusiasts of South Dakota art pottery, Yellowstone memorabilia and vintage National Park souvenirs.

The gently waisted vessel is finished in a warm variegated cream, tan and fawn-brown glaze and decorated with hand-painted dark green pine needles radiating dramatically across the front. At their center is an applied three-dimensional brown pinecone surrounded by three raised twig or branch elements, giving the small vase considerably more texture and sculptural detail than its compact size might suggest. The reverse is hand-painted “Yellowstone,” identifying it as a souvenir piece associated with Yellowstone National Park.

Measuring approximately 2 1/8 inches tall, this is a true miniature or cabinet-size vase. The small scale makes it especially well suited to a pottery collection, curio cabinet, bookshelf or grouping of vintage travel souvenirs, while its pinecone and evergreen decoration also gives it wonderful rustic cabin, mountain lodge and woodland appeal.

The vase remains in excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks observed. The applied pinecone and branch decoration remains intact. There is some age-related fading and wear to portions of the hand-painted “Yellowstone” inscription on the reverse, particularly within the lettering, along with minor surface wear consistent with age and previous display. Please review the photographs closely, as they form part of the description and show the condition and hand-applied decoration in detail.

Gladys Wax pottery is particularly associated with South Dakota and rustic pinecone designs inspired by the natural landscape of the Black Hills. This unusual Yellowstone miniature brings together several appealing collecting categories in one tiny piece: vintage Gladys Wax pottery, Keystone South Dakota ceramics, mid-century American tourist pottery, Yellowstone National Park souvenirs, pinecone décor and rustic Western travel memorabilia.
